Hi Jimi, unfortunately, velvet/chenille yarn have a habit of shedding like crazy. To hide the tails, I would use a crochet hook (not a needle) to gently pull the tail back into the project. Then, I would trim the tail very close to the work with a pair of sharp scissors, and use the crochet hook to push the end all the way in. This way, you can hide the messy ends. Unfortunately, no matter how careful you are with the crocheting or finishing off process, inevitably the ends will fray and your project will shed as you work. This is a major shortcoming of velvet and chenille yarn and one of the reasons why I don’t enjoy working with it! I would recommend you crochet in a well lit, clean area that’s easy to tidy up afterwards. Thanks so much for commenting!

Can you tell me how you begin and end with velvet yarn in order that the yarn doesn’t slip out and leave “tails” everywhere? And also how to keep the ends from fraying? Thanks so much!
